AMEBIX – Power Remains.. The Same LP+DVD (czerwony)

Amebix’s *The Power Remains The Same* is a special release in the catalog of these British crust punk pioneers. The album combines studio material from 1987 with a 2009 live recording, showcasing Amebix both at the end of their initial run and following their return to the stage over two decades later.

Formed in Devon in 1978, Amebix was led by brothers Rob “The Baron” Miller and Chris “Stig” Miller. Although the band emerged from the British punk scene, they were interested from the start in something far heavier and bleaker. Amebix fused the anarchic energy of punk with the heaviness of early heavy metal, a dark atmosphere, and slower, almost doom-laden riffs. The result was a sound that would become a cornerstone of crust punk and exert a massive influence on the evolution of extreme metal.

Key releases from the band’s classic era include *Arise* (1985) and *Monolith* (1987). *Arise*, in particular, stands as one of the most significant albums in the history of crust punk; the band created music that defied categorization, fitting neither the mold of traditional punk nor that of classic heavy metal.

Amebix ceased operations in 1987. As Rob Miller recalls, the group was exhausted at the time and received little support from the music industry. The band split up after roughly a decade, leaving behind a relatively small discography but a profound legacy that influenced generations of musicians to come. After the band’s breakup, Rob Miller stepped away from music and settled on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, where he took up traditional blacksmithing and sword-making. Stig Miller continued his musical career, playing in bands such as Zygote.

However, the story of Amebix did not end there. In 2008, Rob and Stig reunited with drummer Roy Mayorga—known for his work with bands like Nausea, Soulfly, and Stone Sour. After a hiatus of over twenty years, the musicians began playing together again.

The comeback was so successful that Amebix resumed touring in 2009. The band performed in the United States for the first time, playing a run of eight sold-out shows. That same year, the group toured the US, Canada, and Europe.

It is from this comeback period that the second part of *The Power Remains The Same* originates—a recording of a concert held on May 27, 2009, at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis. Andy Lefton handled the video production, while Roy Mayorga mixed the audio. Consequently, the DVD serves as a document of one of the early stages of Amebix’s return to the stage after more than two decades.

The comeback was not limited to live performances, however. In 2011, Amebix released the single “Knights of the Black Sun,” followed by the album *Sonic Mass*. It was the band’s first full-length record since 1987’s *Monolith*.

*Sonic Mass* also demonstrated that Amebix was not simply trying to recreate the music they had made 25 years earlier. The band retained its characteristic heaviness but expanded upon it with more elaborate melodies, atmosphere, and elements bordering on post-metal.
