Damnable – Obsession Pain MC / Cassette

Damnable is one of the most significant—though today somewhat underrated—bands of the Polish brutal death metal and grindcore scene of the 1990s. The band was formed in 1992 in Przysucha (Masovia) and remained active until 2004.

Damnable was founded by Andy (Andrzej Pakos) and drummer Melon (Mariusz Miernik). The initial lineup was rounded out by vocalist Yehowy and bassist Clans. Clans soon switched to guitar, and Rolly (Mariusz Wiórkiewicz) took over on bass.

In 1994, prior to recording their first studio material, Yehowy left the band. He was replaced by Bayn (Marcin Rejmer), who took over vocal duties and later played guitar as well. It was this lineup that recorded the material that became the first major document of Damnable’s work: the *Obsession Pain* demo.

The band quickly made its mark on the burgeoning Polish extreme metal scene. In 1994, they performed at the Jarocin Festival, and in subsequent years, they began playing shows and tours outside their home region. In 1996, Damnable toured Poland with acts such as Deranged, and the cassette EP *Inperdition* was released during that same period.

Damnable belonged to that generation of Polish bands that built their reputation primarily through demos, cassettes, split releases, live shows, and independent releases. Their music was deeply rooted in the underground and made no attempt to soften the genre’s extreme nature.

Following *Inperdition*, the group began appearing on various compilation albums and split releases. In 1998, the band’s material was featured on… …on the Novum Vox Mortis label.

Ultimately, Damnable recorded two full-length albums: *Inperdition* (1996) and *Completely Devoted* (2001). The band ceased operations in 2004.

**Obsession Pain** is Damnable’s first demo, recorded in 1994 after Bayn joined the band. The material captures the group’s very early style—raw, fast, and firmly rooted somewhere between death metal and grindcore. According to available sources, the demo was created during the period when the group was just beginning to gain recognition on the Polish scene.

The cassette presented here is a reissue of *Obsession Pain* released by The Dice Records in 2023. It is, therefore, a modern edition of historical material rather than the original 1994 cassette.
