Ratos de Porão, also known as RDP, is one of the most important bands in Brazilian hardcore punk and crossover thrash metal. Formed in São Paulo in 1981, the band has become one of the most recognizable representatives of the South American underground. Their music combines the uncompromising energy of hardcore punk with the speed and heaviness of thrash and speed metal, and their lyrics have long addressed social, political, and anti-establishment themes.

Brasil is Ratos de Porão’s breakthrough album, originally released in 1989. The album is one of the most important examples of Brazilian crossover thrash – a brutal fusion of hardcore punk and metal, played with RDP’s characteristic rawness and punk-inspired immediacy. The album showcases the band in peak form and perfectly captures the atmosphere of the Brazilian scene at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s.
