“…All Heed the Black God”—one might assume that such listening takes place, say, on a special day dedicated to worship, also devoid of light—which will feel familiar to more experienced listeners who encounter it, but that’s half the battle. The other half is the potential for growth, which Saint Karloff demonstrates in his dissertation in “Iommic Studies.” Even more than the universal symptom evident in most of the riffs, it is this potential that remains the album’s primary impression, and we hope Saint Karloff continues to build on the vital chemistry and aesthetic license they conjure here.
