Schröttersburg is a band from Płock that has developed a unique style—one difficult to pigeonhole—over the course of its career. While post-punk serves as the band’s starting point, its music also draws from krautrock, industrial, psychedelia, noise, and experimental music. Key characteristics include trance-like rhythms, repetition, a dark atmosphere, and a gradual build-up of tension rather than the structure of a classic rock song.

The band formed in Płock in the early 2010s and has operated primarily within the independent music scene from the very beginning. A crucial aspect of their activity is their consistent stance outside the mainstream—both musically and in terms of how they release their records. Schröttersburg has collaborated with independent labels such as Zoharum, D.I.Y. Koło, and Bat-Cave Productions, all of which appear on many of their releases.

*Om Shanti Om* was released on April 7, 2022. It is a distinctive album in Schröttersburg’s discography, as it clearly highlights the band’s krautrock and experimental side.

The title *Om Shanti Om* references the Sanskrit “Om” and the word “Shanti,” meaning peace. The title itself suggests a direction far removed from the associations typically linked to dark post-punk. However, this does not mean the music becomes cheerful or accessible; on the contrary, the six long compositions employ repetition, monotonous rhythms, and electronic/industrial sounds to create an almost meditative trance.

The album consists of six untitled parts, designated only by Roman numerals. It is important to note that these are not traditional songs featuring choruses and distinct, catchy hooks; rather, they represent successive stages of a single, larger musical journey.

The longest compositions—”I” (9:15) and “VI” (9:41)—effectively illustrate this working method. Instead of abrupt shifts, the band allows the music to unfold gradually, employing repetition and the layering of sounds that build over time.
